Families Helping Families of Northeast Louisiana, Inc.
Families Helping Families of Northeast Louisiana, Inc., a non-profit organization, is a network of families in Louisiana who, because of their own experiences, became committed to reaching out to other individuals with disabilities and their families. Disabilities include physical, mental, emotional, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities.
Families Helping Families of Northeast Louisiana, Inc. offers a place where families can go for help that is guided by parents of individuals with disabilities and individuals with disabilities themselves. Their mission is to assist and strengthen individuals and families through a parent driven, coordinated network of services. Caring for individuals with disabilities takes a wealth of support, knowledge and information. Connecting with others who have similar experiences gives families first hand information and encouragement.
Families Helping Families of Northeast Louisiana, Inc. is part of a statewide network comprised of nine centers. Families Helping Families of Northeast Louisiana, Inc. serves the following parishes: Ouachita, Richland, Franklin, Caldwell, Tensas, East Carroll, West Carroll, Madison, Union, Morehouse, Jackson, and Lincoln.
Families Helping Families of Northeast Louisiana, Inc. offers the following services:
Information and Referral
Provides a variety of information/services on disabilities and will refer to other organizations for more information.
Support Groups
Facilitates support groups in the Region VIII parishes where parents can get together to share experiences, decrease isolations and gain understanding
Peer to Peer Support
Support by phone or in person to individuals who need to talk to another parent who has “been there”; links families with similar situations locally or statewide
Individual Educational Program Trainings (IEP)
Offers trainings to keep families informed of their educational rights and responsibilities under the law; attend IEP meeting to support the family; provides information and assistance to individuals and groups regarding education in the least restrictive environment
Workshops
Offers families workshops to encourage, enlighten, and empower; topics are family-driven, timely, and relevant
Equipment Exchange
warehouses donated equipment and make it available for other families to borrow.
Transition Services (ITP)
assist individuals 14 years old and older and their families identify and locate services that are available to them.
Lending Library
videos, books, magazines, resource and equipment catalogs are available for loan on a wide variety of disabilities and relevant subjects
Newsletter
published quarterly and provides most current information, education, and inspiration.
Myra Crecink Crisis Fund
raised through fundraising and donations to assist families and individuals in crisis situations
Faith-based Awareness
project of community enlightenment to assist faith communities in assessing their programs and facilities for accessibility; making worship welcoming for all
Stipends
available to family members and/or individuals with disabilities to attend conferences, workshops or other events
Programs of Families Helping Families of Northeast Louisiana, Inc. will evolve from the voice of the families and be sensitive to the diverse and changing needs of the communities.
